{"id":77331,"date":"2026-04-14T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/?p=77331"},"modified":"2026-04-13T15:45:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T18:45:33","slug":"tantramar-mayor-calling-on-premier-to-reverse-highway-toll-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/tantramar-mayor-calling-on-premier-to-reverse-highway-toll-proposal\/","title":{"rendered":"Tantramar mayor calling on premier to reverse highway toll proposal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tantramar&#8217;s mayor is calling on the province to reconsider its proposal for a highway toll in Aulac, saying the impacts will be felt on both sides of the New Brunswick-Nova Scotia border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a recent letter to Premier Susan Holt, Mayor Andrew Black states he is writing on behalf of many area residents who are concerned about the recently-proposed idea, pointing out that while New Brunswickers themselves wouldn&#8217;t be hit with the cost of the toll, there would still be devastating effects to both cross-border communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Our region thrives because of the natural flow of people, commerce and community between neighbouring towns on both sides of the provincial border. Visitors from Nova support our local shops, restaurants and service providers, and their presence helps keep our downtown vibrant and our small businesses strong,&#8221; Black writes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said a toll that only applies to out-of-province travelers risks discouraging these regular trips.
