New Brunswick’s food banks say they are experiencing a surge in visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Feed N-B, the province’s food bank association, says it’s seeing about 50-thousand food bank visits per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That’s up from the average of 32-thousand visits reported by Food Banks Canada last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Food N-B director St\u00e9phane Sirois says food bank usage is at its highest point in 50 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia Power is reporting that 26-hundred homes and businesses were without electricity across the province, with the largest outages reported int the Antigonish and Parrsboro areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An assault case involving the stepfather of two missing children in Nova Scotia has been set over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniel Martell\u2019s case is due back in court on July 7th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He did not appear when his case was called in provincial court in Pictou this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Martell is charged with assault, unlawful confinement and sexual assault involving an adult victim who cannot be identified, and he denies the charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the stepfather of Jack and Lilly Sullivan, who were reported missing from their home in Lansdowne Station on May 2nd, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Winning-Goal)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Montreal Canadiens are moving on to the second round of the N-H-L playoffs after a game-winning goal by Newfoundlander Alex Newhook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seventh game of the first playoff round against the Tampa Bay Lightning was tied with nine minutes left when Newhook scored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Canadiens won 2-1, despite registering only nine shots on net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Montreal will face Buffalo in the next round after the Sabres eliminated the Boston Bruins in six games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Radon-Testing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Halifax woman is calling for mandatory radon testing at rental properties in Nova Scotia after learning it was present in two of the buildings she owns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Isabel Tees is a landlord who owns four rental properties in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says she’s doubtful that most landlord are testing for radon, which puts tenants at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Radon is an invisible, odourless gas that can seep from the ground into buildings and can cause lung cancer in occupants, and it is estimated that radon causes more than 100 deaths per year in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Correctional-Officers)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The P-E-I government is looking for people interested in becoming correctional officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A six-month training program begins in August at the Atlantic Police Academy near Summerside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program consists of 17 weeks of coursework and seven weeks of on-the-job training at correctional centres across the Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those accepted may be eligible for tuition reduction and help with mileage and childcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
