{"id":79132,"date":"2026-05-21T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/?p=79132"},"modified":"2026-05-21T00:41:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T03:41:11","slug":"draft-report-of-tantramars-recreation-master-plan-recommends-feasibility-study-for-multi-use-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/draft-report-of-tantramars-recreation-master-plan-recommends-feasibility-study-for-multi-use-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Draft report of Tantramar&#8217;s Recreation Master Plan recommends feasibility study for multi-use building"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"938c8a\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #938c8a;\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2490\" height=\"1396\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2490px) 100vw, 2490px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-20-at-10.51.44-PM.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79137 not-transparent\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Councillor Josh Goguen, top left, address three RC Strategies staff, from top right, Michael Romo, Meaghan Dingwell and Meaghan Carey. | Photo: Screenshot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A draft report of Tantramar\u2019s Recreation Master Plan recommends that the municipality formally conduct a feasibility study on a potential multi-use building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An update on the report, developed in partnership with Canadian consulting firm RC Strategies, was presented by RC Strategies staff at the last regular council meeting before the municipal election back on April 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After engaging with the public and local stakeholders, one thing became easily apparent, said Meaghan Carey, partner at the firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c\u200aOne of the key pieces of feedback that we received consistently throughout our different engagement intakes, as well as looking at your different opportunities and our analysis of utilization, is the need for a multi-purpose community space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Listen to the audio below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/MAY-21-rec-plan-no-brief.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suggested timeline, provided council eventually approves the plan, would see the building potentially completed in the next 5-10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was news that made Councillor Josh Goguen especially happy, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis has been something that&#8217;s been talked about for years and it&#8217;s just kind of been, &#8216;well, not right now, not right now.&#8217; So now we have something to say concretely that, &#8216;hey, this is the time to do it.'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Recreation Master Plan is meant to help guide the municipality over the next 10-plus years and in order to develop the plan, they first created two background reports\u2014the What We Heard report and the What We Learned Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e5e0d4\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e5e0d4;\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2074\" height=\"1170\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2074px) 100vw, 2074px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-20-at-10.53.08-PM-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79140 not-transparent\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A slide showing a potential timeline for a multi-use building, starting with commissioning a feasibility study. | Photo: Screenshot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on demographic analysis, other municipalities, sector-specific considerations and community engagement\u2014which included 298 community survey responses, community group meetings and engagement with youth through a survey\u2014they workshopped a draft of the master plan with administration, said Carey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200a\u201cThe master plan is structured around that key vision, which we summarized down to move, connect and belong. And that&#8217;s the community that we&#8217;re working towards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report will have 16 service delivery recommendations which include establishing a Parks and Recreation Working Group and developing local and regional partners, said Carey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200a\u201cWe do include a key recommendation around establishing a formal partnership or memorandum of understanding between the university and the municipality. The purpose of this will be helping to define community access to university spaces, and also university access to community spaces. So really building on that key relationship that provides important opportunities to your residents to provide opportunities for recreation access.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both background plans can be found on the municipality&#8217;s website on the <a href=\"https:\/\/tantramarnb.com\/active-living-culture\/tantramar-recreation-master-plan\">Active Living and Culture page<\/a>.
