New Brunswick Public Health announced twelve new cases of COVID-19 in the southeast region of New Brunswick on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two people affected are under 19. Four people are in their 20s, two people are in their 30s, one person is in their 40s, one in their 50s, one in their 60s, and one person is in their 80s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This follows six new cases announced in the southeast region on Sunday, putting the total active cases in the region up to 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CBC reported on Sunday that Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell said the six Sunday cases in the southeast are “pretty much all linked,\u201d though she added that should be taken with a grain of salt, because contact tracing was not complete at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The province\u2019s press releases for both days indicate that the cases are still under investigation, as does the provincial COVID-19 dashboard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dashboard says there are now 46 cases still under investigation in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TWO NEW EXPOSURE NOTIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The province issues potential public exposure notifications when public health officials are not certain they can contact all people who may have been exposed at a certain location and time period. The following exposure notifications were issued on Monday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Moncton Squash Club on Dec. 29, 30 and 31 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (71 Essex St., Moncton) and;<\/li>
  • Bo Diddley\u2019s Lounge on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (285 Collishaw St., Moncton).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n


    55 ACTIVE CASES PROVINCE-WIDE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Today\u2019s announcement also included five other new cases, three in the Fredericton region and two in the Campbellton region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Province-wide, there are 55 active cases of COVID-19, 34 of which have been reported since Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    One patient is hospitalized in intensive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Before Sunday, the southeast region had gone six full days with no new cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Russell told CBC Sunday that gatherings over the Christmas holidays had an impact in the province’s recent spike in cases, and more cases are likely in the coming days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Russell said most cases were from people who were symptomatic and still went to work or gatherings without getting tested.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
