Freshly graduated with a masters in fine arts from the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan, she saw a posting for an interim director position at an art gallery in a small university town in New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from Ontario, Cielszczyk had never been to the Maritimes and had no affiliation with Struts Gallery; but once she looked into the artist-run organization, it felt like a natural fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Speaking from experience, I know how hard it is to be an artist and maintain this career, so it&#8217;s just my pleasure to be supportive in that way,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And I&#8217;m a big advocate of community work and community advocacy, so I think we just kind of matched energies.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Listen to the audio below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/JUNE-25-struts-interim-director-no-briefs-2026-06-24-7.46-PM.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After she got the job, she loaded her things in a van and a trailer and made her way to Sackville, where she is taking the reins from Paul Henderson, who is stepping away on parental leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having only arrived a couple of weeks ago, Cieloszczyk is quickly finding a place in the community she&#8217;ll call home for at least the next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;\u200aI think it&#8217;s great. The people are really kind. I like that there&#8217;s always something to do, and then you can drive out an hour, and you&#8217;re seeing waterfalls and the ocean, so it&#8217;s gorgeous here.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And already, she&#8217;s deep into a long-planned effort to revitalize the building Struts Gallery has called its permanent home since the organization purchased the property at 7 Lorne Street in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phased restoration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone going by Struts has seen the large wooden structure erected out front. It&#8217;s a support for the exterior wall, and the beginning of phase one of an extensive restoration project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just before Cieloszczyk started in the role, Struts heard news that it received a $50,000 grant through the provincial Built Heritage Program, which provides funding to projects to support the continued use of heritage places, while keeping their unique character. Thanks to that funding, the organization was able to begin the restoration work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This first phase, which Cieloszczyk says will be done by the end of the year, includes redoing the masonry and restoring the historic windows, as well as installing an accessible door to enter the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the restoration efforts, Cieloszczyk is getting ready for the organization&#8217;s next wave of fundraising to match some funding from a potential donor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;\u200aWe&#8217;re about to launch the fa\u00e7ade facelift fundraiser. So a much-needed glow up for Struts . . . our goal is to raise $20,000 basically by the winter.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"6000\" height=\"4000\" sizes=\"(max-width: 6000px) 100vw, 6000px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/struts-exterior.avif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/struts-exterior.avif 6000w, https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/struts-exterior-600x400.avif 600w\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Struts Gallery has supports holding up its exterior wall while undergoing renovations to its fa\u00e7ade in this photo taken June 24, 2026. | Photo: Mike Robar \/ CHMA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of that effort will be events throughout the summer including barbecue lunches, a farmers&#8217; market stall, a night market, bingo nights and potentially some karaoke parties too, along with some new Struts merchandise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While phase one presses on, Cieloszczyk is busy researching grants and looking into partnerships to fund further phases of the plan, like renovating the interior of the historic building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200a&#8221;We also want to get a new roof, so that&#8217;s still on my mind. I would love to take this as far as I can while Struts is in my hands.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summer plans<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside of those efforts, the gallery still has plenty going on this summer, like their ongoing Living is Easy program and a watch party for the AI documentary <em>The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist,<\/em> facilitated by artist Shary Boyle, along with their Sappyfest activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the gallery is showing Potlach Punk World Tour 2 by Whess Harmon and their open studio artist Bree Gant is planning a movement workshop and screening, said Cieloszczyk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200a&#8221;So, you know, we got so much going on.
