The Chatham Public Library in Miramichi has been operating for 18 months out of a former Tim Hortons storefront with only about one-third of its former space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The temporary location has reduced the collection from more than 24 thousand items to about eight-thousand and offers only eight public seats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former library was demolished after structural issues were found, and a previous council had planned a new 7.4-million-dollar building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A newly elected council is now reconsidering whether to build or lease space, frustrating library supporters who thought the replacement was already settled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lawyer for an Ontario construction company is accusing New Brunswick of adopting Donald Trump-style protectionism in internal trade dealings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
David Outerbridge, lawyer for Julmac Contracting Limited, says the company was discriminated against as an out-of-province contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outerbridge says the province put it at a disadvantage compared to local companies bidding on four bridge projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He made the accusations at a hearing in Fredericton yesterday under the 2017 Canadian Free Trade Agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Wildfire)(Guard against updates)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia firefighters were battling a wildfire in the Annapolis Valley yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Department of Natural Resources said the blaze in Bear River East was out of control on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later in the day fire crews were holding the fire and a department helicopter was released from the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of Nova Scotia is under fire restrictions, with no burning at all allowed in the Valley, the south shore and in the Halifax area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Agriculture-Cash)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia is spending more than 1.7-million dollars to help agriculture businesses expand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Greg Morrow made the announcement Monday at East Coast Wild Blueberry in Debert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company is getting 600-thousand dollars to establish commercial rhubarb production, which the government says will add 7-million dollars a year in sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A mushroom company in Great Village, a farm in Cape Breton and a grape grower in the Annapolis Valley also received funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Measles-Cases)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health says there have not been any new cases of measles identified in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Doctor Yves L\u00e9ger made the announcement Monday after one case of measles was identified in the Moncton area July 10th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
L\u00e9ger says a public health advisory was sent out to alert people who were exposed to the virus on a July 7th Air Canada flight and in the Moncton airport and the main hospital on July 8th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leg\u00e9r says people who were there at those locations on those dates should monitor for symptoms until July 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Nova Scotia premier John Hamm has died at age 88. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hamm was first elected to the legislature in 1993 and served as Nova Scotia’s 25th premier from 1999 to 2006. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He first led a majority government before it was downgraded to a minority four years later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The premier’s former chief of staff Jamie Baillie described him as a –quote– “true gentleman.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
