The Nova Scotia author behind the wildly popular “Heated Rivalry” T-V series has donated 300-thousand dollars to financially challenged libraries in Nova Scotia\u2019s Annapolis Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rachel Reid says libraries are one of the most important services available, and should be a government priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Annapolis Valley Regional Library board said this summer it would have to close five branches without more money from the province — a request that was denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In July, the board said it would keep the branches open until the end of September and said in a statement yesterday that it\u2019s too early to say how Reid’s donation will be used. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politicians in Newfoundland and Labrador are heading back to work early to discuss the province’s new electricity deal with Quebec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier Tony Wakeham says the legislature will resume on September 14th to debate the agreement announced Monday by Prime Minister Mark Carney and the premiers of both provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It outlines new terms for Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro for sharing power from the Churchill Falls generating station in central Labrador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement also calls for developing new hydroelectric and wind energy projects worth more than 50-billion dollars. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Motorcycle-Crash)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P in eastern Nova Scotia are investigating a crash between a car and a motorcycle in West Chezzetcook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crash happened on Saturday afternoon between a Toyota Matrix and a Honda motorcycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both drivers were hurt and police say a child on the back of the bike was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Nova Scotia cabinet minister has apologized after criticism over a rap song he recorded before he entered politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Energy Minister Marco MacLeod sang on a track called “George Jones,” which includes derogatory terms for women and a reference to using cocaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MacLeod posted a note to social media over the weekend apologizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some critics say the lyrics are hateful toward women and violent, and have questioned whether MacLeod should remain in the provincial cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adsum House, a Halifax women’s shelter, says it was “sickened” by MacLeod’s song and called for him to resign. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Brunswick boy is being credited with saving the life of a shark that washed up on a beach southwest of Saint John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fifteen-year-old Finn Holland says he knew he had to help when he saw the porbeagle shark stranded over the weekend near Maces Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He dragged the two-metre-long shark back into the water by its tail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shark experts say it\u2019s rare to see this kind of shark, as they normally stay in deeper water. (CBC News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
