A 42-year-old Nasonworth, New Brunswick man has been charged after R-C-M-P responded to a report of a disturbance involving a firearm on Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say officers learned the man had pointed a firearm at another person, prompting the deployment of several specialized R-C-M-P units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect was arrested without incident at about 3:00 p-m while nearby residents were advised to shelter in place as a precaution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accused appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court Tuesday and was charged with pointing a firearm and assault, then released on conditions to return to court at a later date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Salisbury-School-Land)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick will complete a land exchange with the Town of Salisbury to make way for a new kindergarten-to-Grade 5 school near the existing Salisbury Elementary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 78-year-old school will be replaced by a 52.7-million-dollar facility designed to accommodate 450 students, including Grade 5 students who now attend Salisbury Regional School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new school will be about 45 per cent larger and include spaces for music, performing arts and student support services, along with a multi-function room for educational and community activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027-28, with the new school expected to open by September 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new Abacus Data poll suggests approval of Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston’s government has partially recovered after falling sharply following major budget cuts earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thirty-five per cent of respondents approved of the government’s performance, up five points from July, while about 40 per cent of decided voters said they intend to vote for the Progressive Conservatives remained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The N-D-P rose two points to 33 per cent, while Liberal support was unchanged at 22 per cent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The online survey is based on responses from 600 Nova Scotians between August 8th and September 5th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nova Scotia says it is ahead of two key targets in its five-year housing strategy, with almost 80-thousand additional homes created or supported since the plan was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says investments in new non-market housing and efforts to speed up development have helped increase the supply of affordable homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia has also signed a 300-million dollar partnership with the federal government’s Build Canada Homes program to support 14-hundred-30 new homes, including 500 community housing units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says it is also working with non-profit, co-operative and community housing providers to build new projects and preserve existing affordable housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Memorial-Union-Negotiations)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Negotiations are underway between Memorial University and five unions representing faculty and staff, during a period of cutbacks that has included the elimination of some positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unions include the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public Employees and the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lecturers’ Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Teaching Assistants’ Union at M-U-N are also involved in the negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some meetings have already taken place, with more scheduled over the next month or so as the sides work toward new collective agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after an incident in Bay L’Argent, Newfoundland that left another man with injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burin Peninsula R-C-M-P responded to a 9-1-1 call shortly before 8:20 last night, reporting that a man had been assaulted and needed medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the victim was taken to hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, and he was able to identify the suspect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An individual was arrested and is expected in court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
