R-C-M-P on P-E-I says it has seen a spike in animal-related calls over the past year.
Some of the calls involved escaped farm animals, including cows, horses, goats and pigs.
With nearly 80 animal-related calls in 2024, 20 more calls than the year before — with police urging drivers to remain alert when travelling on Island roads.
Mounties say there was a notable incident involving two vehicles and two cows that resulted in a road closure near Albany.

New Brunswick’s government is offering 1.9-million dollars-worth of fertility treatments for its residents.
The province says it will be covering the cost of one round of in vitro (in-VEET’roh) fertilization treatment or intrauterine insemination per household.
Premier Susan Holt says the province is making good on a commitment to bring down the financial barriers standing between people and starting a family.
The investment comes at the end of Fertility Awareness Month.

New Brunswick R-C-M-P is asking for help identifying a suspect involved in multiple vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in the Shediac area.
Mounties say they have seen an increase in such thefts, so they will be posting surveillance footage photos of an individual police are trying to identify.
Sargent Pierre-Luc Hache says the R-C-M-P believes there are multiple people involved in the crimes, targeting unlocked vehicles to steal or steal from.
Residents are being reminded to lock their vehicles and keep your keys on your person or in your home, don’t leave them in the vehicle.

The search continues today for a pilot whose small aircraft crashed in the Atlantic Ocean, about 225 kilometres off the east coast of Newfoundland.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the single-seat Air Tractor AT-802 took off from the St. John’s International Airport and was being flown to an unspecified destination in Portugal.
A spokesman for the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax says a Canadian Coast Guard ship and two fishing boats are taking part in the search, as are a military Hercules fixed-wing aircraft and a Cormorant search-and-rescue helicopter.
The spokesman confirmed yesterday that searchers had found an empty life-raft, an oil slick and other debris near the plane’s last known position

The Newfoundland and Labrador government is calling for applications to the latest round of its Seniors’ Social Inclusion programs.
The program aims to have applicants organize and promote activities and programs that support social inclusion, healthy aging, mental wellness, and overall well-being.
The provincial government says the program is part of its continuing efforts to create a more inclusive and age-friendly province.
The 2025-26 grants will give successful applicants one-thousand dollars.
