The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital in Moncton is getting over $11.5 million from the federal government for renovations and redevelopment.
Announced Sept. 25, the funding comes from an agreement between the Governments of Canada and New Brunswick, which will see over $450 million in federal money support infrastructure projects relating to housing, post-secondary education and health in the province.
Part of the federal government’s Build Communities Strong fund, the agreement provides over $305 million over 10 years for housing and post-secondary education, and another $155 million in health infrastructure over three years, the release said.
For its part, the provincial government committed not to increase any fees or taxes that hinder housing supply.
The first supported project is the renovation of the Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital. Vitalité Health Network’s largest hospital will have around 13,800 sq. ft. of space renovated to create 12 endoscopy rooms.
An additional $500,000 will fund the second project, also at the hospital, for a redevelopment of the Emergency, Oncology and Obstetrics departments. The modernization will increase capacity and improve patient care.
