State funeral will be held Friday for Marilyn Trenholme Counsell

A state funeral is planned to honour and celebrate the life of former New Brunswick lieutenant-governor Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, who passed away June 17 at the age of 92.

Trenholme Counsell, who also served as MLA of Tantramar from 1987-1997 and later a Senator, was an advocate and leader who dedicated her life to serving her community, province and country.

The funeral, which will be open to the public, will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday in Convocation Hall at Mount Allison University. A reception will follow at the university’s Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts at 152 Main Street.

Members of the public wishing to express condolences may do so by signing the condolence book online. Flags at all provincial government buildings have been placed at half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral.
