On today’s show, we look at a controversial decision facing Tantramar council next week.
Beale and Inch Construction is asking to rezone their property at 146 York Street to industrial with conditions. The business is currently located in a residential zone, grandfathered in as a non-conforming use. Local residents are concerned about a potential increase in activity at the site, which they say causes local air quality and noise issues. Councillors are expected to hear first reading of the rezoning on Tuesday, and will have the choice of moving ahead, rejecting the request, or asking for further work on the conditions around the rezoning.
Plus in news briefs: Cumberland MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin is calling on the Nova Scotia government to bring back travel nurses to the province after observing what she calls ‘upsetting’ conditions at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre in Amherst. And Mount Allison professor Ardath Whynacht has secured a grant to study, “the mental health impacts of civilian and volunteer first responder work… in times of crisis.”
