New Brunswick reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. There are now 36 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
Two cases were in Zone 1, the southeast region. Two people in their 20s tested positive after travelling.
Three more cases were discovered in the Miramichi region, all related to previous cases. All of the asymptomatic testing that took place in Miramichi since last Thursday yielded negative results.
WEEKLY VACCINATION UPDATE
The province issued its weekly vaccine program update on Monday, and there are now over 26,000 people in the province with at least one shot of a vaccine. That’s just shy of 3.5% of the population.
The number of people with two shots is, of course, lower. 12,152 people have been fully vaccinated, just over 1.5% of the population. Only 10 people received a second shot in the past week, which could be a reflection of the province’s new strategy of delaying second shots.
Since the last report 7 days ago, 4742 shots were administered. That’s down from the previous week which saw more than 7400 shots in arms.
New Brunswick appears to have a good supply of shots, with 17,652 being held for planned clinics and second doses, according the province’s COVID-19 dashboard.
A government news release on Monday says clinics are scheduled this week to vaccinate more than 10,400 people, which would be the highest number of shots administered since the vaccine rollout began, and more than double the number of shots given last week.
Those clinics will focus on residents and staff at the province’s 56 licensed long-term care facilities as well as First Nations community members aged 16 and older.
The province says it plans to have first doses administered to all residents of licensed long-term care facilities by March 17.
