The owners of an indoor hydroponic farm in New Brunswick say they are being forced to sell.

Daniel Ratté and his wife Chantal Gagnon say they can’t find employees to work their farm.

They say the workload is too much for their current staff of six and they would need two more employees.

Statistics Canada data shows the rate of national job vacancies in vegetable and melon farming reached 4.5 per cent in 2025, representing about one thousand jobs.

(NL-Elections-Act)

Newfoundland and Labrador’s elections authority says the province’s voting legislation is outdated and in need of updates.

Elections N-L says the current legislation dates back to 1991 and was written before most people had access to the internet.

The agency’s report this month to the provincial government says the legislation was developed around paper-based voting processes.

It says the province established a committee in 2021 to modernize the Elections Act, but none of the group’s recommended changes have been made so far.

(NS-Hospice-Opening)

After years of delays, a hospice unit in Nova Scotia’s South Shore is now fully open.

The unit for end-of-life care at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg was originally scheduled to open in the fall of 2021.

David Henderson, senior medical director for the health authority’s integrated palliative care network, said delays were due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a shortage of specialized staff.
