New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt says Ottawa did the right thing by protecting Canada’s language from the demands of U-S trade negotiators.
Last minute changes around Canada’s protections for language and culture were one of the reasons the federal government walked away from U-S trade talks on Friday.
The premier of Canada’s only bilingual province said Monday that was the right call.
Holt says New Brunswick’s identity is wrapped around the French language and not up for negotiation with Donald Trump.

Governor General Louise Arbour is set to be in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, on September 11th to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.
Rideau Hall says Arbour will also meet with a variety of provincial officials and Indigenous leaders during a five-day visit beginning September 8th.
Dozens of flights were diverted to the Gander airport as the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001, were unfolding across the United States.
Thousands of stranded passengers were welcomed by the local residents, who provided food, shelter and essentials.

Police in Charlottetown are warning about a phone scam in which fraudsters impersonating police officers try to obtain personal and financial information.
They say scammers are using spoofing technology to make it look like calls are coming from Charlottetown Police Service’s non-emergency phone number.
A news release says in many calls, a fraudster claims to be “Officer Miller” — but there is nobody with that name on the force.
Police say officers will never request personal information to verify someone’s identity over the phone, nor will they use financial information for identification.

The Cape Breton Eagles are celebrating their 30th anniversary this season.
The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League team have never made it to the league final.
It’s hoping to change that with several players from last year’s champions, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, now playing for Cape Breton.
The Eagles’ regular season kicks off September 18th against Halifax.
