Well-loved member of the Tantramar community Deanna Cadman died on Monday at the age of 68 after a battle with breast cancer.
Cadman worked for the Town of Sackville for more than 30 years, where she was always a welcoming and friendly face. Many of those years were spent as a program coordinator for the recreation department, ensuring residents had meaningful ways to engage with and enjoy the community they called home. In 2023, she was named Sackville’s Citizen of the Year for a lifetime of selflessness and devotion to making her community better.
In a condolence post on Facebook, the municipality of Tantramar said “her career was one of passion and commitment,” and that she fostered an environment that made everyone feel they belonged. Flags at the municipal office and the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre will be flown at half mast in her memory.
While she was undoubtedly committed to Sackville and Tantramar, her obituary says her “family was the centre of her world, and she was the heartbeat of her family.”
She leaves behind a spouse, daughter, two step-children, four siblings, 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
There will be a visitation at Campbell’s Funeral Home on Saturday, August 1 from 5-8 pm and on Sunday, August 2 from 11 am to 1 pm, with a private family burial in the Midgic Cemetery to follow. At 2 pm on Sunday, a public reception will be held at The Church By the Lake where people are welcome to attend and share memories to celebrate Cadman’s life.
Donations can be made in memory of Cadman to Breast Cancer Canada or a charity of one’s choosing.
