Festival by the Marsh is remounting a production of the heartbreaking story of Chester Cole, a teenage speed skater from Sackville whose talent carried him from local ice to the world stage.
Chester Cole – Speed Skater, written by Ron Kelly Spurles and directed by Charlie Rhindress, is returning to the stage this week at the Sackville Curling Club.
The play, running from June 4-7, follows the life story of teenage speed skating sensation and would-be Olympian Chester Cole who, after winning a junior World Speed Skating Championship title in 1926 at 14 years old, tragically died a few years later following an accident while competing at Madison Square Gardens.
The show was originally brought to the stage in 2019 as part of Sackville’s Bordertown Festival and was titled Cole. This second production will be staged this Thursday to Sunday, with 7:30 pm shows each evening, and 2 pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available on the Festival by the Marsh website.
