- Rueda de Casino – Monday, January 19
Rueda de Casino is a fun social Cuban circle dance with upbeat music and lots of laughter, running Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Sackville Curling Club. A new session starts this Monday, January 19, and it is a great time to jump in, as the group will restart from the beginning if there are new dancers. No partner and no previous experience are needed. It is a friendly group with an energetic vibe and no pressure to be “good at dancing”, and having a mix of skill levels helps newcomers learn the steps quickly. The cost usually works out to about $5-$6 per night, based on attendance, paid in blocks to cover rental costs. - MAKER MAKER: Magic Shrink Plastic with Vee Bee – Wednesday, January 21
Sackville artist Vanessa Blackier, also known as Vee Bee, leads a Maker Maker workshop on Wednesday, January 21, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Owens Art Gallery, 61 York Street in Sackville, New Brunswick. Participants can draw their own designs on special shrinking plastic and then watch them transform in toaster ovens into tiny treasures that can become charms, keepsakes, or custom accessories. Maker Maker is a series of small after-hours art workshops for people who enjoy making things by hand with friends and fellow makers. This session is free, all materials are provided, no registration is required, and everyone is welcome. - Bagtown’s Trivia Night – Wednesday, January 21
The winter trivia series at Bagtown Brewing Company kicks off this Wednesday, with Marcie and Jenna hosting and a themed round on ‘2025’. Doors open at five in the evening, and trivia begins at seven. The door cover is a minimum donation of $2.50, which includes one drink ticket. Alcoholic options are $7.50, and non-alcoholic options are $5. Throughout the winter, teams will be playing for Bagtown pints, and there will be an attendance draw at the end of the series. - Ducky’s Trivia – Thursday, January 22
Ducky’s Bar is once again launching Trivia Night every other Thursday, with Ducky’s Trivia happening on January 22 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Trivia is taking over Ducky’s Bar, and teams will have a chance to win a special prize awarded both to the winning trivia team and the crew with the best team name, where creativity really counts. The night is hosted by Luc Poirier, one of the owners and your host for the evening. Come early, bring your smartest and funniest friends, and be part of something brand new at Ducky’s. - Sackville Film Society – Secret Agent – Thursday, January 22
The Sackville Film Society is screening Secret Agent, directed by Kleber Mendonca Filho, at the Amherst Theatre on Thursday, January 22, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., following Marcelo, a technology teacher who flees Sao Paulo for Recife during Carnival to escape a violent past, only to find chaos in the streets and neighbours spying on his every move. Tickets are available at the box office, including six-pack punch cards for $66 and single admissions for $12. - Dirty Picture II – Struts Gallery  – Friday, January 23
Struts Gallery is presenting Dirty Picture II, a solo exhibition by Ryan Danny Owen that transforms the gallery into a fantasy motel room film set built from personal archives, bootleg tapes, and objects, exploring queer longing, nostalgia, and loss. The exhibition runs from January 23 to April 15, 2026, with an opening reception and artist talk on Friday, January 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., when the artist will be in attendance. This exhibition includes images and videos with nudity, sexuality, flashing lights, and glitch media. - Writers’ Open Mic – Sunday, January 25
Writers’ Open Mic is a free monthly event that welcomes writers of all ages, genres, and backgrounds to share their work or simply listen and enjoy. The next gathering takes place on Sunday, January 25, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park Centre, offering a relaxed space for poetry, stories, essays, and works in progress. Everyone is welcome, whether you are reading for the first time or just curious about the local writing community. - Committee of the Whole Meeting – Monday, January 26
The Committee of the Whole meets on Monday, January 26, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Municipal Office Council Chambers at 31C Main Street. These public meetings generally serve as information sessions on various subjects and are often the first opportunity for staff to present an item or issue to Council, so decisions are not usually made at this stage. This format gives Councillors time to reflect on the information and request further details if needed, helping to support their decision-making at a later Regular Monthly Council meeting.
