Things to do around Tantramar this coming week

We keep our ear to the Tantramar street around CHMA, and here’s a handy roundup of local events worthy of your calendar. From karaoke and holiday concerts to theatre, craft workshops and film nights, there’s plenty happening in Sackville and the area.

  • CHMA Open Mic/ Karaoke – Wednesday, November 26
    CHMA is hosting our first-ever Volunteer and Programmer’s Open Mic and Karaoke Night on Wednesday, November 26, at 7:00 p.m. at CHMA HQ. Expect a cozy evening of music, snacks, laughter and good vibes. Performers can sign up by emailing station@chmafm.com, and everyone is welcome to listen, sing along, and be part of the night.

  • A Very Carole Christmas Carol – Thursday, November 27
    The Motyer-Fancy Theatre presents A Very Carole Christmas Carol, a campy, queer and joyful musical take on the Charles Dickens holiday classic. The performance happens Thursday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Motyer-Fancy Theatre at the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts. All tickets are 5 dollars, and the show is recommended for ages 16 and up.

  • Winter Wreath Workshop – Bagtown Brewing Company – Thursday, November 27
    The Little Plant Nursery and Bagtown Brewing Company team up for a cozy Winter Wreath Workshop at Bagtown Brewery on Thursday, November 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All materials are included: wreath base, greenery, wire, ribbon, and adornments, and beginners are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their own snips or sturdy scissors if they can.

  • Sackville Film Society – Nouvelle Vague – Thursday, November 27
    The Sackville Film Society is screening Nouvelle Vague, a 2025 comedy-drama directed by Richard Linklater. The film follows the shooting of Breathless in 1959, one of the early films of the French New Wave, with Guillaume Marbeck as Jean-Luc Godard, Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg, and Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo. Screenings take place on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Amherst Theatre. Single tickets, six-packs and full memberships are available at the box office, and all are welcome.
  • Soup & Sandwich Social – Friday, November 28
    Mount Allison Service Sociology students are hosting a Soup & Sandwich Social at the Sackville Legion on Friday, November 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in support of Daybreak Activity Centre and Open Sky Co-op. Admission is $10 cash at the door, and donations for the Sackville Food Bank are encouraged. The event will feature live music, a silent auction, a raffle, and information about community companion programs. Attendees can reserve a spot using the online form or by emailing Cheryl Veinotte-Mackey.

  • A Very Ventus Christmas! – Saturday, November 29
    Wind ensemble Ventus Machina joins vocalist Monette Gould for A Very Ventus Christmas!, an afternoon of holiday cheer in a café-style setting with coffee, tea and cookies. The concert takes place on Saturday, November 29, at 4:00 p.m., at The Church by the Lake, 14 Church Street, in Sackville. Tickets are by donation in support of the Sackville Music Festival, with a suggested donation of 20 dollars. Children 12 and under can attend for free.
  • Holiday Cheer Play Festival: It’s a Wonderful Life – Sunday, November 30
    As part of the Holiday Cheer Play Festival, Greenslades House on Charles Street hosts a live staged reading of It’s a Wonderful Life, adapted from the classic film script. The reading runs about one hour, and is a pay-what-you-can event at the door, with cider and Christmas cookies included. Performances happen at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 30.
