(NB-Campobello-Island)

The New Brunswick government says it has begun seasonal ferry service to Campobello Island early this year amid the ongoing tariff dispute between Canada and the United States.

The province says crossings begin today, following a contract between the government and East Coast Ferries.

It says seasonal service typically begins in June.

The ground link for Campobello Island residents is the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge but it would mean crossing the U-S border four times, amounting to about 150 kilometres of travel.

(NL-Drugs-Traffic-Stop)

R-C-M-P in Newfoundland and Labrador say they have arrested a woman following a traffic stop that ended with a seizure of drugs.

Police say they stopped a vehicle in Deer Lake when officers noticed cocaine inside the vehicle.

The quantity of cocaine seized was not noted, but police allege they found more than an ounce along with paraphernalia for trafficking.

The Mounties say the seizure comes as street-level seizures of cocaine have shown purity levels between 94 and 96 per cent, which is highly toxic for humans.
