More people are packing up to flee their homes as wildfires rage along the western shore of Conception Bay in Newfoundland.

About 45 kilometres northwest of St. John’s, the blaze has destroyed around a dozen homes since Wednesday afternoon.

Gerry Rogers was emotional as she paced her home this morning, packing up her belongings to leave.

The resident of the amalgamated town of Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove could see the flames creeping closer toward her house when she looked out the window.

(NS-Missing-Children)

A volunteer helping search for two missing children in northeastern Nova Scotia is urging the public to avoid harmful speculation about the fate of six-year-old Lily Sullivan and four-year-old Jack Sullivan.

The police investigation is continuing with R-C-M-P saying detectives are always involved in missing persons cases to determine if they are “suspicious in nature.”

The search has been scaled back after Mounties said there was little chance the siblings could have survived after six days in a densely wooded area.

Mounties say detectives have been involved in the case since last Saturday– a day after the siblings are believed to have wandered from their rural home in Lansdowne Station. (The Canadian Press)

The River Watch Program says water levels along the Saint John River basin continue to decrease and return to normal.

New Brunswick’s public safety minister says the province is fortunate there were no significant impacts from flooding this year.

Robert Gauvin is now urging people to stay prepared for other dangers including wildfires and the upcoming hurricane season.

Nova Scotia is speeding up its environmental reviews for clean energy projects.

That’s because without the ability, Environment Minister Tim Halman says the province will not be able to meet environmental commitments such as reaching net zero for greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The changes include certain projects being reclassified to the quicker Class 1 assessment process.

The consultation period for the public and the Mi’kmaq under Class 1 has also been extended by 10 days for a total of 40 days under the 50-day long review process.
