The Sackville Film Society will open their new season September 18th at the Amherst Theatre in Nova Scotia. The season’s line-up includes a mix of current dramas, comedies and documentaries and are films made by Canadian, American and Foreign filmmakers.
At the helm of the society is retired Mt. Allison professor, Thaddeus Holownia, who has been steering the organization for an impressive forty-six years since he took it over in 1979. In the following interview, he illustrates the history of the organization, his enthusiasm for movies and the draw of being in a theatre space with an audience watching a film.
“Going to the movies is an all encompassing social event. And when you go into a theater and you are surrounded with the energy of other people and you are surrounded by the film, ’cause it’s on a big screen with a great sound system, you end up having a physical experience that you don’t have sitting in front of a digital projection or a computer screen or an iPad and the energy level of that group of people is unbelievable.”

Sackville Film Society will begin its third season at the Amherst Theatre on Thursday September 18, 7:30 with East of Wall. Purchasers of the first 20 full memberships ($140 for 14 films) will be rewarded with a Sackville Film Society T-shirt. Six-pack punch cards will also be available at the Box Office ($66) and single admission ($12) are available online or at the box office the day of the show.
