A 62-year-old Sackville man has been sentenced to life in prison without eligibility of parole for 24 years for the second-degree murder of his spouse three years ago.
Roger Hilyard Crossman appeared in Court of King’s Bench in Moncton on Tuesday, Nov. 2 for sentencing after admitting to killing and dismembering his spouse in October 2023. He was also sentenced to 5 years in prison to be served concurrently for the indignity to human remains charge. Upon his release, he will be subject to a forfeiture order, a communication prohibition, a lifetime firearm prohibition and is required to submit a DNA sample.Â
Marlene Cheryl Crossman’s body was found when Sackville RCMP responded to a well-being check on the afternoon of October 12, 2023, for an individual living at a residence on King Street. Later that same day, Roger Crossman turned himself into the Antigonish RCMP detachment in Nova Scotia, and was subsequently arrested in connection with the investigation.
The New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit determined the woman’s death to be a homicide.
The following day, (Oct 13, 2023), Crossman appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with first-degree murder of his spouse. He was remanded into custody, and was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment. The charge was later changed to a second-degree murder charge.
