Volunteers sought to help plant 250 trees at Beech Hill Park

Tantramar is celebrating National Forest Week with a tree planting event at Beech Hill Park and is seeking volunteers to help with the task.

The event, which will take place next Saturday, Sept 26, will see the planting of 250 trees and 100 shrubs; including placing mulch around each tree and installing tree guards to protect them from animals.

This project was made possible through a $51,280 grant funded by the government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative.

Registration and refreshments will start at 9:30 am. The tree planting itself will run from 10 am-12 pm.

Shovels and gloves will be available, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own if they would prefer. Closed toe shoes are recommended, as well as dressing according to the weather as the event will go rain or shine.

If interested, volunteers can pre-register at at www.tantramarnb.com/programs. For any assistance for the event or more info, reach out to Jamie at j.ferguson@tantramarnb.com.
