The Liberal candidate in a Newfoundland and Labrador riding could soon learn whether his 12-vote lead will hold.
An automatic judicial recount is underway in Terra Nova-The Peninsulas.
However, Elections Canada says it could still be “a day or two” before the recount determines whether Liberal Anthony Germain really did beat Conservative Jonathan Rowe.

Hunters and fishers in New Brunswick may now present electronic copies of their licences to conservation officers when asked for ID.
The policy change ends the need for a signature on licences issued by the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development’s electronic licensing system for such activities as hunting, angling, and trapping.
Natural Resources Minister John Herron says allowing hunters and fishers to show an electronic licence as proof to a conservation officer, instead of carrying a paper copy, is something they have long been asking for.
The licensee must still be able to present a copy of his or her licence upon request, regardless of internet connectivity or other phone issues.

The City of Fredericton has released a new report showing rapidly shifting housing needs and changing household dynamics.
The update to the Housing Needs Assessment shows a smaller proportion of both rental and ownership markets is affordable to all households, reporting that homelessness has increased by 63 per cent between 2021 and 2023.
With population growth in Fredericton projected to increase 41 per cent over the next two decades, the housing assessment says the city will require nearly 20-thousand housing units over that span to keep up with demand.

Provincial police in Newfoundland and Labrador are investigating a suspicious fire in Frenchman’s Cove.
Officers responded to a report of a structure fire on MacDonald Road at 3:20 a-m today, where they observed a shed on a residential property that had sustained significant fire and smoke damage.
Police say the fire is believed to be suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing.
They’re asking anyone with information or any video footage of the incident to reach out to them. (The Canadian Press)

(NS-Halifax — Murder-Trial)
The second-degree murder trial in Pat Stay’s death is now underway after a jury has been selected.
It’s alleged that Adam Drake stabbed and killed the Dartmouth rapper outside a downtown Halifax bar in September 2022.
The trial was set to begin eight months ago, but it was delayed after Drake’s lawyer became a judge.
Justice Scott Norton says the trial would last until approximately June 18th. (CTV News)
