The Mounties have charged a man with mischief and failing to follow a probation order, after he allegedly barricaded himself inside a home in the Halifax suburb of Timberlea.
Police says they responded Sunday to a disturbance at a residence on Lakehigh Crescent.
Investigators say they learned that a man armed with a knife had gained entry into a home and threatened to harm himself, and when a woman — who knew the man — asked him to leave, he refused and barricaded himself inside.
After approximately three hours of talking to negotiators, the man left the home and was safely arrested.

A Hants County resident who planned a weekend meeting to discuss uranium mining in the area says community members want more answers from the Nova Scotia government.
Sarah Trask, who lives in the community of Vaughn, says residents in attendance voiced concerns about potential environmental and health harms and a lack of government consultation.
Trask says a community meeting to discuss proposed uranium mining in nearby Millet Brook filled a local fire station Saturday.
The provincial government added uranium to its list of priority critical minerals May 14th, and it issued a request for exploration proposals for three sites with known deposits of the heavy metal.
