Some parts of the Atlantic region are under heat warnings, with Environment Canada asking people to stay hydrated.
Warnings are in effect for parts of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P-E-I, as temperatures are expected to hit around 30 degrees — but will feel even hotter.
Temperatures across P-E-I and the majority of central and southern New Brunswick could feel like 37 degrees due to humidity.
Residents should watch out for early signs of heat stroke, which include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst and intense fatigue. (The Canadian Press)

A new economic report says New Brunswick’s population has grown by 2.7 per cent between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.
The province’s population as of July 1st, 2024, was 854-thousand-355 people.
The government says population growth by more than two per cent for three consecutive years is a trend not seen since the 1970s.
New Brunswick gained 22,165 people between July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, including 14,988 immigrants. (The Canadian Press)

The family of a Canadian tourist who was found dead in a northern part of the Dominican Republic is raising money to bring his remains home to Nova Scotia.
Thirty-three-year-old Dorian Christian MacDonald was found dead in the water on a beach in the Puerto Plata resort town of Maimon Bay around 3 a-m on June 20th.
Global Affairs Canada had said it was aware of the death of a Canadian in the Dominican Republic, was providing support to the Canadian’s family and is also in touch with local authorities.
The fundraising, organized by his friend Tara McKenzie, says the family needs up to 20-thousand dollars to get his remains back, because of the costs involved in flights and paperwork. (The Canadian Press)

(NL-Sugar-Tax)
Newfoundland and Labrador’s tax on sugar-sweetened drinks has been repealed.
The province’s so-called sugar tax officially ended yesterday.
The levy was imposed in September 2022 and added 20 cents per litre to regular soft-drinks, sweetened fruit-flavoured juices, sugary energy drinks and other beverages.
However, newly minted Liberal Premier John Hogan announced in May the tax would be removed following years of protests from the Opposition Progressive Conservatives.

(Terry-Fox-Cycling)
Terry Fox’s younger brother Darrell is part of a team of cyclists biking across the country in honour of the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.
The group is expected to reach St John’s in Newfoundland on July 10th.
They started their ride in Vancouver on June 9th.
The group has set a one-million-dollar goal to raise money for cancer research.
