As tensions in America are rising, local organizations and residents are starting to look for ways to support the cause and raise awareness of the turmoil that is happening in the states, most recently Minneapolis.
Café Tintamarre is hosting a hat knitting night this Thursday evening in support of the ICE protests in the US. The event will bring people together to knit Melt the Ice Hats, inspired by the red pointed hat with a tassel made and worn by Norwegians in the 1940s as a visual protest against the Nazi occupation.
The Melt the Ice Hats have recently become a symbol of solidarity against the actions of ICE and have raised significant funds for local organizations supporting immigrants.
The event is beginner friendly but limited materials will be available, so bring your own red yarn and knitting needles if you can. People can download the Melt the Ice Hat pattern from Ravelry if they’d like to donate to Minneapolis non-profits.
The event will be held this Thursday, February 5, from 6-8 at the Tantramar Visitor Information Centre.
