March break is almost here and Tantramar has lots on tap for children of all ages
From ‘learn to code’ workshops to drop-in music sessions to a video game tournament, a babysitting course, a wildlife camp and more, there is lots to keep kids busy next week.
The activities kick off Monday, March 2 at 10 am in Sackville with a craft-making session where kids ages 6 to 11 can create shrinky-dink keychains. Also on Monday, there is a coding workshop at noon for Grades 1 to 4 hosted by Let’s Talk Science Mount Allison
Tuesday will feature a Home Alone Course, designed to teach children about staying home alone without their
parents. Topics covered for the course include basic safety tips, home safety procedures, when to call 911, fire safety and more. There is also an inclusive ‘learn to code’ workshop for tweens in Grades 5 to 8, where they will explore technology, play with robots and do computer crafts.
On Wednesday, activities will get under way in Dorchester with a drop-in music session at the public library, where kids can get a one-on-one introduction to ukulele, guitar or piano. Wednesday will also have an open gym time and a movie afternoon.
A babysitting course is on Thursday’s line-up, for those ages 11 and up. Participants will learn how to care for children of all ages and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. A craft afternoon and a video game tournament will wrap up Thursday’s schedule.
Friday will feature pre-school storytime and art, a STEAM afternoon, and a March break movie.

Atlantic Wildlife Institute in Cookville is also hosting its annual March Break camp from March 2-6. The popular week-long camp, which celebrates winter and the great outdoors, is already filled up but they do have a waitlist if you’d like to sign up. This is a nature-based, outdoor learning experience for youth in Grades 2-6, highlighted by snowshoeing, animal tracking, winter games, crafts, forest exploration and bushcraft skills.
