Mount Allison University will confer honorary degrees on four distinguished individuals during its 2026 Convocation ceremonies on Monday, May 11.
“Mount Allison values the importance of a future-focused liberal arts and sciences education — one that encourages creativity, exploration, and meaningful contribution in the world,” says president Ian Sutherland. “All four of this year’s honorary degree recipients reflect those values in inspiring ways, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements at Convocation.”
The 2026 honorary degree recipients are:
- Phil Richards, renowned Canadian portrait artist who has worked as a visual artist for more than 50 years;
- Gerald MacGarvie, class of 1968 alumnus and president of the Crabtree Foundation, also a philanthropist who has supported education and environmental conservation;
- John McCall MacBain, an entrepreneur and philanthropist whose work has had a transformative impact on education, climate, and public service;
- Marcy McCall MacBain, health scholar and philanthropic leader whose work reflects a deep commitment to well-being, education, and social impact.
