All 18 candidates in the Tantramar municipal election met to answer questions from residents on Tuesday night. The roughly two-hour long panel, organized by the Citizens’ Committee for Informed Elections, was held at the Church by the Lake and moderated by Carol Cooke, with assistance from both CHMA 106.9 and CFTA 107.9.
All candidates—including Ward 4’s Kristin Leblanc, who won uncontested—were present and allowed brief introductions. Cooke then began the panel with a question all candidates received in advance regarding the proposed Centre Village gas plant and what they saw as the municipality’s role in it. In the interest of time because she already has her seat, LeBlanc was excluded from answering questions throughout the night.
The floor was then opened to audience questions which ranged from rising taxes to heritage protections to potential locations for a multi-use facility to house things like the farmer’s market.
