New Brunswick is seeing progress in fighting wildfires, as the Atlantic provinces continues to fight flames across the region.
Officials in New Brunswick say the 14-square-kilometre fire north of Miramichi has been contained, but six other wildfires in the province are still considered out of control.
Looking at Newfoundland and Labrador, the provincial government says a committee has been tasked to lead recovery efforts in the Conception Bay North area, after a wildfire has destroyed about 100 structures.
The fire that began near Kingston is still burning out of control and thousands of people remain out of their homes.
Some 98 structures equipped with power meters have been lost to the fire.

(NB-Attempted-Murder)
The Moncton R-C-M-P say a man attempted to kill a police officer after being placed under arrest.
On August 14, the R-C-M-P responded to a disturbance call andarrived at the scene to see two individuals fighting.
Police attempted to place one of the individuals under arrest, but the man resisted and began stabbing an officer in the head repeatedly.
Police used a taser on the man twice and brought him under arrest, levelling charges of attempted murder and other crimes.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

(NB-Mi’kmaq-Gas-Concerns)
A group representing some Mi’kmaq chiefs in New Brunswick is calling for a review of a proposed gas project.
The non-profit group representing Mi’kmaq First Nations in the province says the Centre Village gas project that’s been proposed by N-B Power and Pro Energy has raised concerns.
It says there are worries about how the 500 mega-watt facility could impact the environment and community.
It is calling for a Mi’kmaq-led review of the project before it advances.

Health care workers in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, are being given more places to call home thanks to a new project at the former Wheelhouse Motel.
The province says it invested 4.1-million dollars for the creation of 13 residential units.
Three more units are slated to be available in the fall.
Nova Scotia’s minister of Growth and Development says this new housing will ensure the province can begin to fill critical health care position and recruit professionals who wouldn’t have anywhere else to live.

(NL-Trans-Canada-Fatality)
Newfoundland and Labrador R-C-M-P say a man was killed on the Trans-Canada Highway after being ejected from his vehicle in a crash.
Police say the 44-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a single-vehicle crash Sunday.
The 37-year-old woman driving was arrested at the hospital and refused to give a blood sample to police.
She is expected to appear before the courts in December.

(NL-Regatta-Race-Challenge)
The City of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, is challenging residents to participate in the Race the Regatta challenge at the 2025 Canada Games ARTA VISTA Festival.
People are being invited to the St. John’s Convention Centre during the games, where they can try out a virtual rowing challenge and earn their place on the leaderboard.
Officials say everyone who participates will receive a City of St. John’s Canada Games pin.
