Police say one person is dead after a helicopter crash in southern New Brunswick.
R-C-M-P say the Robinson R-44 helicopter departed Saturday from Fredericton en route to the airport in Sussex, northeast of Saint John.
Mounties later got a call that the aircraft was missing, and searchers found the wreckage, along with the body of the pilot, near the Sussex airport on Sunday.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating. (The Canadian Press)

P-E-I Premier Rob Lantz says he has asked for an investigation into a former cabinet minister’s handling of a permitting issue at a golf club.
Lantz says a third-party investigation found that Gilles Arsenault, when he was the environment minister, granted an amendment to a wetland alteration permit for the Summerside Golf Club that did not comply with provincial policies.
The statement by the premier came Sunday, just one day after he removed Arsenault from cabinet.
The former minister has also been suspended from caucus pending the outcome of the province’s conflict of interest commissioner’s probe. (The Canadian Press)

The board of the students’ union at Newfoundland and Labrador’s only university will vote on the fate of the campus radio station this week.
The executive committee of Memorial University’s students’ union passed a resolution this month to recommend the board stop funding C-H-M-R F-M.
The union says it was in debt by nearly 300-thousand dollars at the end of 2024 and it is reviewing all of its services.
Station manager Rhea Rollmann says campus stations across Canada are finding ways to become financially self-reliant, and she wants the union to give C-H-M-R at least a year to do the same. (The Canadian Press)

A firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a fire broke out at a strip mall in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Brad Connors with Halifax Regional Fire says the blaze began at the newly opened JetLegend restaurant.
He says the restaurant was heavily damaged, but neighbouring businesses were not.
Connors says the firefighter taken to hospital has since been released. (CTV Atlantic)

Tributes have been pouring in following the death of one of the first Black players in the N-H-L.
The league’s Alumni Association says former Washington Capitals winger Bill Riley died at the age of 75.
Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, he played with the Capitals as well as the Winnipeg Jets between 1974 and 1980.
The Capitals say in an online tribute that Riley was a trailblazer who followed in the footsteps of players like Willie O’Ree, and he left a lasting impact on the hockey community. (The Canadian Press)
