New Brunswickers to rally at legislature against polluting energy projects

New Brunswickers will head to the New Brunswick Legislature next Tuesday, October 20, to tell the Holt government loud and clear that expensive, polluting energy projects are not acceptable.

The rally – which has been organized by Protect the Chignecto Isthmus Coalition and Seniors for Climate Tantramar – will take direct aim at projects such as the Tantramar gas plant (RIGS), the Lorneville data centre, the possible lifting of the moratorium on shale gas and fracking, and Sisson mine.

“These projects will endanger our health, pollute our air and water, worsen climate change, and raise our electricity rates, while leading us away from an affordable future and the transition to clean, renewable and inexpensive energy that we need and deserve,” stated Jim Emberger from the NB Anti Shale Gas Coalition.

The Rally will bring together 10 speakers to voice concern for these projects and propose clean and more affordable solutions. The rally begins at noon and runs until 2 pm, coinciding with the outdoor early
afternoon traditional salute/parade with Lieutenant Governor Louise Imbeault at the fall opening of the Legislature.

Other supporting organizations involved in the rally include: NB Anti Shale Gas Alliance, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment of NB, Conservation Council of NB, Save Lorneville, Stop the Tantramar Gas Plant, Atlantic Wildlife Institute, Coalition for Responsible Energy Development NB, Stop Sisson Mine, No Data Centre NB, ACORN, and NB Lung.
