(NB-SIRT-Saint-John)
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating after a man was seriously injured during an arrest in Saint John last summer.
SiRT says it happened on July 5th when a vehicle being pursued by police nearly struck a Saint John police officer before stopping.
It says multiple officers took the driver into custody during which time the man suffered serious injury to an eye and his ribs.
The use of force and the actions of one of the arresting officers is being investigated as a result. (The Canadian Press)

(SCOC-NS-Murder)
The Supreme Court of Canada has sent the murder case of Nathan Johnson back to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal in light of potential new evidence.
He was sentenced to life in prison and illegal possession of a firearm in the 2010 shooting death of pizza delivery worker Chad Smith.
But Johnson argued the October 2023 acquittal of his one-time co-accused Randy Riley at retrial brought into serious question the credibility of two Crown witnesses against him at his own trial.
The Nova Scotia Court of Appeal had dismissed Johnson’s appeal of his convictions in 2017, before the Supreme Court of Canada in 2022 had dismissed his application for the case to be returned a lower court. (The Canadian Press)

The federal government has announced 12.6-million-dollars to help rural businesses across Atlantic Canada.
The money is a continued investment in the region’s network of community business development corporations.
Entrepreneurs across Atlantic Canada can access C-B-D-Cs for financing, training and on-the-ground support.
The funding supports fishers, farmers, trade and local restaurants and shops. (The Canadian Press)

Two Nova Scotia youths are facing arson and mischief charges after a gas station fire in Lower Truro.
R-C-M-P say that on November 19th just after 10 p-m officers responded to a report of suspicious people in the area and came upon the fire.
The Mounties say the fire was burning under and around industrial propane tanks in the gas station parking lot, leading to an area road closure.
The two suspects were arrested nearby. (The Canadian Press)

(NL-Provincial-Scholarships)
More than 200 high school graduates have been awarded provincial scholarships in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Paul Dinn recognized the recipients for their hard work, dedication, and academic achievements.
They include Mount Pearl Senior High School graduate Samuel Power, who received the Junior Jubilee Scholarship for being the student with the highest scholarship score in the province.
A total of 275-thousand-dollars is being awarded to 201 students. (The Canadian Press)
