Environment Canada has issued heat warnings and a special weather statement in for parts of the Maritimes.
Central and southern parts of New Brunswick, the western half of Cape Breton Island, and Queens and Kings County in P-E-I are enveloped in rainfall warnings and a special weather statement.
The weather agency says those areas could see up to 80 millimetres of rain as a weather system feeding on moisture from remnants of hurricane Beryl will continue to affect the province today.
Meanwhile, Antigonish, Pictou and Colchester Counties, Truro and south of Nova Scotia have a heat warning where the mercury could reach 29 degrees Celsius, although it could feel like 36.

New Brunswick’s Tourism Department says it will upgrade facilities at Parlee Beach Provincial Park.
A news release says it will spend about four million dollars for work that includes a new stormwater collection system, which will direct runoff to a pumping facility where it will be treated with filters and undergo ultraviolet light disinfection.
It says work during the summer will take place mainly in and around the pumping facility, which will not significantly affect access to the park.
It says the project will address issues surrounding water quality and storm and tidal water retention in the tidal creek and pond.

R-C-M-P in New Brunswick say a 28-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been sentenced following an investigation into child pornography.
Police say they executed a search warrant on April 4th, 2023 seized several electronic devices from a home, and arrested a man and a woman.
They say the duo were facing several charges, including sexual interference, making of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
In May and July this year the man and woman were sentenced to eight years in prison.

Nova Scotia has added new outreach teams to support unhoused people in Truro and Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
This move comes after the province boosted funding for the Halifax Regional Municipality’s outreach team by 650-thousand dollars in December.
Both Truro and Cape Breton Regional Municipality will be supported by a team of five people, the province says.
The Halifax program now has six staffers.

The developer of two new Nova Scotia housing projects in the Strait of Canso area says he’s seeking every avenue to ease the financial burden on new renters.
Brela Construction purchased a vacant school building in Evanston from the Municipality of Richmond County in May to convert to affordable seniors’ housing.
A month later another development deal was signed with the Town of Port Hawkesbury to set up housing units within walking distance of the Nova Scotia Community College’s Strait Area Campus.
Brela owner Jeremy Carroll says seniors’ housing makes sense for the former West Richmond Education Centre given its closeness to the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston.

Newfoundland police arrested a woman in St. John’s for stealing from a downtown business.
Police say they arrested a 28 year old woman in possession of stolen merchandise.
She was charged with theft and breach of release order.
The woman is set appear in court this morning.
