(NB-Whooping-Cough-Outbreak)
Health officials in New Brunswick have declared a provincewide outbreak of whooping cough.
The Department of Health says there have been a “higher number” of whooping cough cases than usual in multiple parts of the province.
One-hundred-and-forty-one cases have already been reported this year, well exceeding the average of 34 cases in a year.
Whooping cough is a contagious, vaccine-preventable disease that can occur at any age, and usually begins with cold-like symptoms.

(NB-Missing-Woman)
The R-C-M-P’s major crimes unit has taken over the case of Kari Lynn Rose Campbell, a New Brunswick woman who has been missing for three years.
Cpl. Hans Ouellette couldn’t give details but said elements in the file led police to hand it over to their major crimes team.
The Mounties’ website says the unit investigates homicides, attempted homicides, suspicious disappearances, drug trafficking activities and sexual assaults.
Campbell was last seen outside a home in Durham Bridge on August 19th, 2021.

Nova Scotia’s 1.3-million-dollar investment in a home-sharing platform has so far resulted in just 23 leases signed.
The money went to a Canadian non-profit home-sharing platform called Happipad.
The program matches homeowners who have empty rooms with renters.
But as of July 31st there have only been 60 rooms listed and 23 leases signed.

Port Saint John is starting to feel the strain of a countrywide railway disruption as shipments of potash lay idle.
President and C-E-O Craig Bell Estabrooks says potash shipments from the West to the large dry-bulk facility in Saint John started to slow earlier in the week.
Bell Estabrooks says the port will see an extreme bottleneck of cargo from ships, adding that he expects a pandemic-level supply chain disruption occurring in a matter of days. (CBC New Brunswick)

(NS-Standoff-Arrest)
Halifax R-C-M-P say they arrested a man on Monday after a brief standoff at a home in the Lower Sackville area.
Police were told that a woman had been assaulted and held against her will by a 44-year-old man before she escaped.
The man, who police believe had access to firearms, barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out until a crisis negotiator worked to de-escalate the situation.
The man was arrested without trouble and faces several charges related to assault and forcible confinement, as well as weapons-related offences.

Halifax police say a man has life-threatening injuries after falling from a ladder while at work.
The 44-year-old man fell at around 2 p-m Wednesday while working in the 200 block of Chain Lake Drive.
Police say he was taken to hospital and the Department of Labour is investigating.
