The leader of the Liberal Opposition in Nova Scotia is calling on both Ottawa and Premier Tim Houston to put on their “adult” pants and work out a deal to fund the upgrading of the Chignecto Isthmus.
Yesterday federal Infrastructure Minister Sean Fraser said he would withdraw 325 million dollars on the table if New Brunswick and Nova Scotia didn’t offer to put their share of funding on the table.
Houston called Fraser’s comments a threat and says he won’t back down.
Liberal Leader Zach Churchill says a negotiated deal should be worked out between the two levels of government to ensure the safety of Nova Scotians and New Brunswickers is protected.

(NB-CUPE-Collective-Agreement)
The government of New Brunswick says a union representing 11-hundred social workers, clinical psychologists, probation and parole officers and human resource development officers has signed a new collective agreement.
The workers represented by CU-PE Local 1-4-1-8 signed the agreement, which includes wage increases of 12.5 per cent over four years.
The province says the agreement will also see an increased and targeted premium for front-line social workers in child protection.
Finance and Treasury Board Minister Ernie Steeves says the employees are in important, front-line roles, and serve some of the most vulnerable. (The Canadian Press)

(NB-Addiction-Facility)
The New Brunswick government is seeking proposals for the creation of a 50-bed addiction treatment centre.
The Health Department announced the request for proposals today, saying the government is aware there’s an increased need for this type of support.
The department says the new facility should follow a “therapeutic community model,” and it is asking applicants to propose a location for the centre.

(NL-Breaking-Entering)
Mounties in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland are investigating a commercial break, enter and theft by two masked suspects during the early hours of Monday morning.
Video surveillance confirms two people forced entry inside a story shortly before 5:30 A-M, where they proceeded to steal bags of merchandise, including cigarettes and lottery tickets.
The suspects were wearing jackets, hoodies, globes, ball caps, and hid their faces using coverings.
R-C-M-P say a black truck was seen driving at a high speed in the immediate area, and the investigation is looking to confirm whether the vehicle is connected to the crime.

(PEI-Wage-Increase)
In two weeks the minimum wage in P-E-I is increasing.
The provincial government is reminding employers and workers that as of October 1st, minimum wage will be 16-dollars an hour.
This is up 60 cents from the current minimum wage.
