The federal Fisheries Department says it is concerned about a “pattern” of violence and threats towards its enforcement officers.
The department is making the comment today after two tense incidents off southwestern Nova Scotia, in St. Mary’s Bay, last month.
The Maritimes office of D-F-O says on September 19th case officers faced “an attempted assault while conducting routine at-sea enforcement activities,” while on September 25th, a fisheries patrol boat and a fishing boat collided during an attempted boarding.
The Mounties say charges of assaulting a police officer have been laid in the September 19th case, but in the September 25th case it has concluded no criminal offence occurred.

Elections New Brunswick has mailed more than 315-thousand information cards to voters, explaining where and where they can vote in the October 21st provincial election.
Chief electoral officer Kim Poffenroth is encouraging voters to bring their cards with them when they vote.
She says each card has a barcode that will be scanned by staff at polling stations, quickly confirming the voter’s name on the voters list.
Eligible voters who do not receive a card or fail to bring one to the polling station will receive help from staff who will make sure they are on the voters list — or add them to the list, if necessary.

R-C-M-P in eastern Nova Scotia are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in the village of Lincolnville.
The Mounties say the crash was reported yesterday.
They say a 28-year-old man from nearby Boylston was travelling on Highway 16 near the Lincolnville Loop when his motorcycle veered off the road and hit a culvert.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and a collision reconstructionist was called in to investigate.

Nova Scotia’s department of Natural Resources is getting new helicopters to help fight wildfires through a deal with aerospace giant Airbus.
According to the department the contract to replace its four current helicopters is worth over 25 million dollars.
Minister Tory Rushton said following cabinet yesterday that money from a trade-in or sale of the existing helicopters will be used to bring down the purchase price of the new aircraft.
The department says the first of the new helicopters is expected to be delivered next summer.

The P-E-I government is warning motorists to watch for slow-moving farm equipment on local roads as the fall harvest swings into high gear.
The Transportation Department says tractors and other machinery will be on the roads early in the morning and late at night.
The department is urging motorists to slow down, be patient and maintain a safe distance when following or passing farm equipment.
As well, the department says motorists should watch for slippery mud left behind by farm machinery.
