A housing advocacy group is calling on New Brunswick’s next government to strengthen tenants rights as the provincial election looms.
Tobin LeBlanc Haley says the New Brunswick Coalition for Tenants Rights report is a useful handbook for decision-makers.
The report surveyed 346 people around the province and notes that renters fear losing their homes as the cost of shelter increases.
It recommends the victorious party in the election impose increases on rent caps.

The people of northern Labrador are being urged to complain directly to the federal government about “inhumane” food prices in the province.
A Nunavut M-P made the comments saying people should complain about how a federal subsidy program to reduce food prices in remote Indigenous communities is not meeting its goal.
On social media, the local Northern Store is charging close to eight-dollars for cabbage and over 21-dollars for a 1.42-litre bottle of Crisco cooking oil.
A food security programs manager with the Inuit Nunatsiavut Government in northern Labrador says a subsidy adjustment is needed now to bring down food prices.

Close to 150 future physicians and nurse practitioners who have committed to working in New Brunswick once qualified are set to be awarded over 1.1-million dollars.
The New Brunswick Medical Education Foundation says the money will be given in the form of a scholarship to go towards tuition relief.
Also known as Doctors for N-B, the registered charity says it’s committed to recruiting and retaining future physicians, specialists and nurse practitioners.
The recipients will be awarded at a gala on Tuesday.

A team from Nova Scotia Power is heading to Florida to assist in power restoration.
A spokeswoman for the utility said yesterday that 35 people from the company were in South Carolina yesterday and travelling to Tampa to start storm response once they get the all-clear that it’s safe to move in.
The majority are power line technicians, and there are also support staff including logistics experts and mechanics.
The response teams will carry out the same sort of work in Florida as they do in Nova Scotia following a storm, working to restore power and make any necessary repairs.

Police in P-E-I are continuing to seek tips from the public after a woman was reported missing in late September of last year.
R-C-M-P say 30-year-old Élora Patoine was last seen on Albert Street in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 19th, 2023.
Patoine was last seen wearing a brown faux leather jacket, black pants and had a school bag with her.
The Mounties describe her as five-feet 10 inches tall, about 140 pounds with curly brown hair.

Nova Scotia’s Souls Harbour Rescue Mission says it plans to serve free Thanksgiving meals across the province today.
The mission says it will serve 550 turkey dinners at its locations in Lower Sackville, Bridgewater, Truro and Sydney Mines.
Today’s meals will be available between noon and 2 p-m.
A dinner at its Halifax Cunard Street location is planned for Monday.
