Two young co-directors help guide Sackville’s next generation of dancers
Marissa LeFurgey and Molly Savoy are the directors of the Academy of Classical Ballet and Modern Dances on 53 Main Street in Sackville. If the names, or the addresses sound familiar, that’s because this is the same space where Perpetual Motion Dance Studio once operated.

From student to director
CHMA News spoke to LeFurgey last week about what’s on the horizon.
LeFurgey says she first danced at Perpetual Motion in 2017 before later teaching there while attending Mount Allison University. She eventually captained Mount A’s dance team. When the studio changed ownership in June 2025, she and Savoy stepped in to direct the new Sackville chapter of the Dieppe-based Academy of Classical Ballet and Modern Dances.
“It used to be under the name of Perpetual Motion Dance Studio, and we changed ownership just at the start of the summer,” said LeFurgey. “It was a really smooth transition. We kept a lot of classes and teachers the same, but we’re also bringing in new ones from Dieppe. So we’re giving our dancers and students a lot more opportunities that way.”
A packed season ahead
The studio is now preparing for several upcoming performances – including the Electric Beat Dance Competition in Moncton from November 14 to 16, a double winter recital at Mount Allison’s Convocation Hall on December 14, and a spring production titled Alice: A Dance Tale.
LeFurgey said about a hundred students take part in the Sackville program,
“We have around sixty troop dancers and about fifty leisure dancers,” she said. “It’s been really good feedback so far. Everyone’s happy and appreciative of these new opportunities.”
A supportive space for all ages
LeFurgey said the studio aims to be inclusive for all.
“Dance is a really great way to build confidence and to show who you are…our dance studio in Sackville is a completely judgment-free zone. All of our teachers are committed to making sure dance is a safe space for every single child that comes, and really tailoring the dance experience towards every child, because every child learns differently.”
The studio also offers one adult modern class, taught by former Perpetual Motion owner Renee Rio, held Wednesday nights from 8 to 9 p.m. Registration for that class will reopen in January.
Community connection
LeFurgey said sometimes long time residents are surprised to learn there’s a dance studio in Sackville. To those with children interested, LeFurgey adds,
“It’s really important to support the arts and support youth,” she said. “Enrolling your child in dance is always a good idea to connect with your community. Dance is a great discipline for learning time management, creativity, and musicality.”
