The New Brunswick Liberals have won a majority government in the provincial election.
And Susan Holt will become the first woman premier in the province’s history.
With all the polls reporting, the Liberals won 31 of 49 seats; the Progressive Conservatives won 16, and the Greens two.
Outgoing premier Blaine Higgs lost his riding of Quispamsis and said he will begin the process to replace him as Tory leader.

The head of the East Coast Music Association says she’s working to address concerns some in the local music community are raising over a slate of recent changes.
Blanche Israël says she intends to rebuild trust with members after an online petition emerged last week with 550 names calling for an explanation of changes to the annual East Coast Music Awards.
New awards submission guidelines put less weight on streaming data and ask musicians for a written explanation of why their music should be considered for nomination.
The next E-C-M-A Awards will be held in St. John’s from May 7th to 11th, 2025.

People hoping to pick up the new weekly print edition of The Telegram newspaper in St. John’s will have to subscribe to get it.
Postmedia acquired the paper as part of its takeover of the insolvent SaltWire Network and it says The Telegram’s only weekly print edition is only available to subscribers.
April Lindgren, a journalism professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, says the move means people have fewer opportunities to encounter the news in St. John’s.
Postmedia also acquired The Chronicle Herald in Halifax, which is still sold in stores, though Atlantic News owner Chris Green says he gets just 10 copies on weekdays and 65 on the weekends — and they all sell out.

R-C-M-P in New Brunswick say a weekend ground search for evidence related to the disappearance of a teenage girl in 2021 didn’t reveal any new information.
Police say 20 people participated in the search for evidence regarding Madison Roy-Boudreau of Bathurst.
The search occurred in the Middle River area, just south of the girl’s hometown.
Police have said the 14-year-old’s disappearance is being treated as a homicide investigation.

Police in Newfoundland and Labrador say they are investigating a collision that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man.
They say officers responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Main Road and Greenhouse Road in Dunville between a backhoe and a moped on Friday around 3 p-m.
They say the moped driver was taken to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The operator of the backhoe was uninjured.

P-E-I is partnering with the Atlantic Police Academy to offer a correctional officers training program.
The province says the program will develop 12 students’ skills and knowledge on intervention and de-escalation strategies, crisis management, Canadian law, ethics and professionalism as well as topics specific to correctional services.
The six-month program will begin in January 2025, and will include 17 weeks of course work and a seven-week on-the-job training component at Island correctional centres.
Graduates of the program will receive a Correctional Officer diploma from the Atlantic Police Academy and will be interviewed for employment with P-E-I Correctional Services.
