The Point de Bute Fire Department is getting a new battery-operated auto-extrication tool.
Tantramar council voted to purchase the new equipment for $29,744.75, taxes included, at the Oct. 13 regular council meeting.
The tool, a Holmatro Pantheon Series battery-powered cordless rescue cutter, is more advanced than what the fire services currently use. One cutter was purchased in the early 1990s, and the most recent was over a decade ago, between 2013 and 2015, said Chief Administrative Officer Jennifer Borne in response to a question from Councillor Alyssa Greene.
It will help with on-scene efficiency when the department responds to motor vehicle collisions, which make up a significant portion of their annual call volume, according to Dan Dupuis, director of protective services for Tantramar, when he presented to council.
It was a previously budgeted item.
