A request to rezone a house in the north end of Moncton, New Brunswick to allow for a youth group home to move there has been rejected by council.
The rejection comes after neighbours in the area opposed the plan, with more than 260 people signing a petition against it.
Sixty-nine written objections were also submitted with the petition ahead of Monday’s public hearing on the rezoning of the small cul-de-sac near Evergreen Park School.
Several residents spoke at the hearing and expressed concern about traffic and how the facility could change the character of the area.

Party leaders in Newfoundland and Labrador fanned out across the province on the first official day of the election campaign.
Liberal Leader John Hogan campaigned in Labrador with a stop in Happy Valley-Goose Bay while Progressive Conservative Leader Tony Wakeham was scheduled for a stop in St. John’s.
Monday’s election call came as people who lost their homes to wildfires in Conception Bay North wait to hear whether they’ll receive any government money to recover and rebuild.
Liberal minister Jamie Korab, who is responsible for housing, says any talks between the provincial and federal governments about compensation will not be interrupted by the campaign.

A 32-year-old Nova Scotia man is facing charges after another man was attacked with a machete.
R-C-M-P say they responded early Sunday to a report that a man got into an argument with another person at a party in the community of Prospect.
They allege the suspect left before returning with a large dog and a sheathed machete, which a 41-year-old man was hit with before a 43-year-old man who stepped in was assaulted.
The Mounties say the charges faced by the suspect include assault and assault with a weapon while the victims suffered minor injuries.
