Officials in New Brunswick are asking some residents of the Black River Bridge area to be prepared to flee as a wildfire burns nearby.

Authorities say people living on Highway 117 from Black River Bridge up to and including Little Branch should be prepared to evacuate within 24 hours of notice.

Black River Bridge is about 20 kilometres east of Miramichi.

Residents of Perry’s Cove in eastern Newfoundland can finally return home after a fire forced them to evacuate nearly three weeks ago.

Officials say they will be given masks, cleaning supplies and water testing kits, as well as a guide to returning home safely after a wildfire.

The Kingston fire on the northwest shore of Conception Bay began three weeks ago and measures about 100 square kilometres.

The fire has destroyed nearly 200 homes and structures.

Officials in Nova Scotia expanded an evacuation order in Annapolis County last night as the fire at Long Lake intensified.

The Department of Emergency Management asked people living along the stretch of Highway 10 from Crisp Road to the intersection of West Dalhousie Road and Old Liverpool Road to leave their homes.

The department said in a social media post earlier yesterday that crews are doing their best to protect homes and other structures.

The fire began on August 13th and it is burning out of control roughly 130 kilometres west of downtown Halifax.

Volunteer firefighters in Nova Scotia pulled a teenage boy from the ocean on Saturday afternoon after he was spotted clinging to driftwood off Glace Bay.

John Chant with the Glace Bay Volunteer Fire Department says a call came in just before 1 p-m reporting someone struggling to get back to shore near.

He says first responders arrived at the scene to find a boy holding on to a piece of driftwood and calling out for help about 45 metres from shore.

Crews were able to reach the teen within minutes, despite dangerous conditions. (CBC News)

The Green Party in P-E-I has named a new interim president.

Charlotte Sullivan is a lawyer with McInnes Cooper in Charlottetown.

She was elected to the Green Party’s Provincial Council in June 2025.

P-E-I’s Green Party holds three of 27 seats in the provincial legislature.

(NL-Evacuations-Lifted)

Evacuation orders that had been in place for several communities in Newfoundland’s Conception Bay North because of a massive wildfire have been lifted by the province.

People in the town of Salmon Cove and the communities of Burnt Point, Gull Island and areas north of Northern Bay Brook Bridge in Northern Bay were allowed to return to their homes late yesterday.

The Salmon Cove order had been in place since August 7th, while the order for the unincorporated area of Burnt Point-Gull Island-Northern Bay was issued August 9th.

The government of Newfoundland and Labrador is matching donations to the Canadian Red Cross’s wildfire relief campaign.

The move mirrors a previous pledge by the federal government to match all donations.

Premier John Hogan says the province will match donations between August 14th and September 13th.

Hogan says that money will help to ensure the Red Cross has the resources it needs to help the province’s evacuees and to provide relief.
