Nova Scotia’s largest wildfire has more than doubled in size and damaged its first homes in the Annapolis Valley since breaking out nearly two weeks ago.
Provincial officials confirm the fire has damaged a number of homes in the area of West Dalhousie near Long Lake, although the exact number is unconfirmed.
Premier Tim Houston says the 77 square kilometre fire remains out of control.
Officials say a total of 330 homes were evacuated as of yesterday, while 138 people have registered at a shelter location at the Nova Scotia Community College campus in Middleton.

New Brunswick is lifting most of the restrictions it had imposed on access to Crown land.
Officials say the ban was lifted at 12:01 a-m.
However, a restriction remains in place on some forest industry activities on Crown land.
The province is also maintaining its burn ban.

(NS-Highway-Fatal)
Nova Scotia R-C-M-P say a 51-year-old Quebec man is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 102.
Police say the crash occurred Sunday near Exit 7 when a pickup truck crossed the median and became airborne prior to crashing into an S-U-V.
The driver of the S-U-V died at the scene, while a passenger was airlifted to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the driver of the pickup – a 38-year-old man from South Carolina – was also taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Medical training is underway for 20 students at U-P-E-I.
A news release says orientation activities for the students were held last week.
The U-P-E-I satellite campus is an extension of Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The school says students will get clinical training in the province’s hospitals and health clinics.

(NL-Fire-Charges)
A 24-year-old man in Newfoundland and Labrador faces a raft of charges in relation to multiple fires.
Police allege the fires damaged five structures and six vehicles in Sheshatshiu on August 22nd.
They say the charges include arson: disregard for human life, arson: damage to property, five counts of assault with a weapon and mischief over five thousand dollars.
Police are asking anyone with any video footage to come forward.

P-E-I has extended a ban on all fires in the province, including campfires, until September 8th.
The ban extends to domestic brush burning, campfires and bonfires, including those on private property and at provincial parks and campgrounds.
The fines for causing a fire can reach up to 50-thousand dollars, plus victims of crime costs.
