Prime Minister Mark Carney says businesses in Atlantic Canada will be able to access 80 million dollars of the one billion tariff relief fund set up by the federal government.
Ottawa set aside the money for a regional tariff response initiative to help small and medium-sized businesses diversify their markets and adopt new technologies.
Carney says the seafood industry will be eligible for the funding, which is being administered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
China has hit the seafood industry with punishing tariffs in retaliation for Canada’s 100 per cent levies on Chinese electric vehicles.

A group of evacuees from 19 homes in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis County will be allowed to return home today.
Provincial fire officials say the Long Lake wildfire is not likely to grow after burning for almost four weeks, as long as conditions do not change.
Evacuation orders remain in place for about 110 civic addresses in the Annapolis Valley.
The fire destroyed 20 homes late last month and forced about one-thousand people to evacuate their neighbourhoods near West Dalhousie.

Many owners say the federal government’s pause in the electric vehicle mandate doesn’t affect them.
But some are concerned that infrastructure growth will slow in the coming years.
Julien Kos, an electric vehicle owner from New Brunswick, says pausing the mandate means fewer automakers will feel inclined to invest in better electric cars, which could impact overall growth in better charging infrastructure and vehicle choices.
Kos says charging stations in the province are often unreliable and the pause would mean there won’t be as many options for electric vehicle buyers.
