Shovellers in eastern Newfoundland face another battle this morning after a second night of snowfall.

Amateur weather watchers on social media posted snowfall totals reaching 45 centimetres in St. John’s this morning.

Some flights at the St. John’s International Airport were cancelled or delayed, and metro schools delayed their openings.

The snow began overnight Sunday, leaving shovellers in the capital with about 20 centimetres to deal with yesterday morning.

Two New Brunswick business owners say property crime is out of control.

Appearing before Moncton city council Monday night, the two business owners represented the Enough is Enough coalition.

One said that his rental properties are losing tenants because of concerns over crime in the city’s downtown.

Councilor Bryan Butler said he agreed that more needed to be done, but council did not have the power for some enforcement actions, such as directing the R-C-M-P as to where they should deploy officers.

Dozens of people are still out of their homes in central Newfoundland as the risk of flood from a nearby river system persists in the town of Badger.

The town asked people on several streets to flee their homes last week when water levels rose dangerously high.

The town is asking residents who have not been evacuated to boil any water they intend to consume.

That includes water for drinking, cooking, washing produce and brushing teeth.
