(NB-Monahan-Leadership)

A second candidate has entered the race for leader of the New Brunswick Progressive Conservatives. 

First-term M-L-A Don Monahan announced his candidacy Saturday. 

Monahan will run against former M-L-A Daniel Allain, who announced his bid for leadership in the fall. 

P-C members will vote for their new leader at the party’s convention in October. (The Canadian Press)

(NB-Medicare-Mixup)

Hundreds of New Brunswick households may be affected by medicare information that was sent to the wrong addresses. 

Local government minister Aaron Kennedy says Medicare learned of a mailing mix-up that could impact 365 households. 

Kennedy says the issue has been dealt with and the province is working on mitigating any impacts on those affected. 

Anyone affected can expect Medicare to contact them directly with further information. (The Canadian Press)

P-E-I New Democrats have elected their new leader. 

Thomas Burleigh won the top role Saturday with 46 unanimous votes. 

Burleigh was the only candidate, but party rules still require a formal vote. 

Burleigh has served as a councillor for the Rural Municipality of Central Prince. (CBC)

(NS-Dartmouth-Fire)

A two-alarm fire at an abandoned building in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is under investigation. 

Firefighters were called to the fire on Pleasant Street late Saturday evening. 

Crews battled the blaze overnight, keeping the fire from spreading beyond the original building. 

Halifax police shut down neighbouring streets until midday Sunday. (CTV)

The Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative party wrapped up its annual general meeting yesterday.

The three-day event at a hotel in Halifax has largely been closed to media.

The A-G-M included a keynote speech from Premier Tim Houston on Friday.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Tony Wakeham also gave a luncheon address on Saturday. (The Canadian Press)

There is a new millionaire in Newfoundland. 

Atlantic Lotto says a ticket worth one-million dollars was sold in Conception Bay. 

The ticket was for the February 7th draw.
