New Brunswick officials say residents who live near waterways should act now to protect themselves and their property.
The province’s emergency measures organization says the lower Saint John River basin is full and approaching flood stage.
The agency is forecasting floods Tuesday that could affect Fredericton and nearby Gagetown.

The acting mayor of Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, is being remembered as a tireless champion of the town.
The Town of Saint Andrews says in a news release that Kate Akagi, the second woman and the first Indigenous person to lead the town, died over the weekend.
Meetings this week have been postponed in honour of the Order of New Brunswick member.
In an online tribute, local member of Parliament John Williamson says Akagi was a tireless champion who spent countless hours as a volunteer. (The Canadian Press)

Police in Halifax are investigating after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed early Sunday morning.
Police say they were called to Chisholm Avenue shortly after midnight, with the victim saying he was in a house with friends when a rock was thrown through a window.
They went outside and found another group of young people dressed in black and wearing masks.
The second group sprayed the first with a sensory irritant and the victim was stabbed.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no arrests have been made. (The Canadian Press)

Police in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County have seized a variety of weapons from a man living in the Westville area.
Among the weapons found in a home on Foxbrook Road were several prohibited and restricted firearms, crossbows and large swords.
A 33-year-old man was arrested and is expected to appear later in court.
The search was part of an investigation involving the Mounties, the Westville Police Service, and the Stellarton Police Department. (The Canadian Press)

(PEI-Gun-Arrest)
Police in Summerside, P-E-I have arrested a man who allegedly pulled a gun during an argument in a strip mall parking lot.
The man had already fled when officers arrived at 447 Granville Street.
Police say the victim and the suspect were known to each other and had a previous conflict, before arriving by coincidence at the same business.
The suspect was later arrested at a residence and faces multiple charges.

(NL-Freezing-Rain)
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for freezing rain in Newfoundland’s Avalon and Bonavista peninsulas.
The weather agency says a prolonged period of winter weather will start this afternoon and continue into Thursday night.
Both areas can expect freezing rain and more than 10 centimetres of snow.
